Drying

Brice-Baker manufacture a broad range of modern continuous flow grain dryers from 9.5 up to 300 tonnes per hour. The flexible modular design of the Brice-Baker LD dryer ensures that we can offer a model for every application.

MANUFACTURE

In 2010, Brice-Baker bought the exclusive intellectual property rights to the design(s) for the world-famous Law-Denis grain dryer. The full range of SCN continuous flow grain dryers is now manufactured at our factory in Yate, UK, and Brice-Baker are committed to the continual development of this well proven dryer to ensure it remains a class leader.

Choose from our standard range or contact our office with your specific drying requirements in order to have a grain dryer designed to suit your needs. In addition to our own rage of LD dryers will will be pleased to quote for other types of dryer as part of a complete grain handling solution.

EQUAL PRESSURE SYSTEM

Brice-Baker use the lateral design developed by Law-Denis that allows:

  • Uniform grain movement down the column,
  • Even airflow through the grain
  • Maximum airflow without lifting of the grain.

The proven EP (Equal Pressure) system ensures this because:

  • The EP inlet and exhaust laterals are parallel in section to ensure even grain flow (tapered laterals cause grain in the centre of the column to flow faster).
  • EP inlet laterals have an 'equalisation plate' which ensures even airflow along their whole length (no short cuts!!)
  • EP exhaust laterals are completely open and offer minimum resistance and, being parallel in section, encourage optimum airflow without movement of grains in the lateral.

With this superior EP drying system, the benefits of maximum efficiency, uniform drying and higher outputs are the result.

LATERAL DESIGN

At the heart of the mixed flow grain dryer are the drying laterals – ducts which carry the hot air into and away from the grain. Other dryer designs commonly use identical laterals, usually tapered in section, for both the inlet and exhaust air.

FAN

Individually tailored to each drying requirement, the fans can be mounted horizontally or vertically. Balanced airflow is provided to ensure the drying of difficult early wheats and this airflow can reduced to suit lighter crops such as oil seeds. The standard range uses 1250 mm diameter fans which offer greater efficiency and lower noise levels than many of our competitors' 1000 mm units. Other diameters are available for special applications and the fans can also be designed to meet individual customer specifications. Brice-Baker also supplies a special Dust Control Fan which provides greater capability and efficient dust control. Noise attenuators are a standard item.

DISCHARGER

Positive and simple. Proven over 30 years, the pneumatic system gives pulse discharge; wet dirty grain descends positively and uniformly down the column. The advantages of an intermittent discharge is that a calibrated amount is released inside a short time, ensuring that all grains move inside the dryer, which is of great importance on a mixed flow dryer with hot and cold zones. The impetus given ensures that the overall motion becomes similar to fluid flow, instead of the step-by-step irregular flow occurring with roller dischargers. Blockages are rare, and grain flow is uniform across the dryer.

CONTROL PANEL

All our dryers are supplied with modern touch screen control panels with components sourced from major international companies.

Brice-Baker offers two standard dryer control systems, depending on the customer requirements.
Our standard panel is PLC controlled with a 5 inch touch screen. All dryer functions are accessed via straightforward text based menus providing comprehensive control without complication. This panel provides all the safeguards needed for efficient and safe drying, and includes automatic moisture control based on exhaust temperature, notification of specific faults, and an alarm log.

Our ADVANCED control panel has the ability to perform more operations, record more data and besides operating the dryer can also control the complete plant.

Advanced Control Panel Features include:

  • TOUCH SCREEN CONTROL — 12 inch colour screen with easily accessed menus to set temperatures, functions, open and closed times.
  • EXTERNAL PLANT CONTROL — the complete plant can be controlled from the panel.
  • EASE OF SETTING UP — Drying tables included for easy reference when setting up the dryer
  • RECIPE SELECTION — Save your current dryer settings for future years using the recipe feature
  • AUTOMATIC TREND RECORDING — will record hot air and grain exhaust temperatures constantly during drying for future reference.
  • ALARM LOG — This log will record the history of any interruptions and faults causing dryer alarms.
  • EXPANDABLE DESIGN — meaning that routes and equipment can be added to your system over time.

Further options include:

Text Messaging — Alarms and alerts can be sent to the operator’s mobile phone.
Modem — allows access to the control panel by our engineers for updating programs.
Ethernet connection — Allows viewing of drying operations from a remote location.
Data Logging — We can include extra pages to record other information such as stored crop temperatures etc.
